Do
you or someone you know throw away used needles
in the trash or flush them down the toilet? Self-injectable
needle waste is a growing hazard in the U.S. Up to
800,000 needle-stick injuries are reported nationwide
each year. California passed a law to address home-generated
needle waste. Effective September 1, 2008, people
may no longer toss used needles into solid waste collection
containers, including recycling and green-waste containers.
The state's Medical Waste Management Act mandates
that sharps waste (needles, syringes, and lancets)
be collected in an FDA-approved sharps container (rigid
and puncture-resistant that when sealed is leak resistant
and cannot be reopened without great difficulty) and
properly disposed. L. M. Caldwell Pharmacist provides
a Stericycle Needle Drop Box for your convenience
within our pharmacy at 235 W. Pueblo Street. Help
us protect people and reduce risk by the safe disposal
of your home generated sharps waste. |
